MANILA – Rio Olympics silver medalist Hidilyn Diaz is now undergoing rigorous training as she prepares for this year’s Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games.
The tournament where she will again represent the Philippines will be staged in Turkmenistan in September.
Medyo rigid na ang training,” she said on Sunday.
Diaz said she is currently in the process of building her muscles and learning various weightlifting techniques.
Although she is already an Olympic medalist, this does not mean she no longer has a hard time during her training sessions.
“Hindi ko inakala na mahirap palang bumalik. Nahirapan ako. Noong August to December, talagang 'yung training ko three times a week lang. Yung katawan ko, medyo nabugbog,” she said.
Diaz, however, remains determined to give pride to the Philippines once again.
CELEBRATING WITH MOM
Meanwhile, amid her busy training schedule for her next weightlifting tournament, Diaz went out of her way to spend Mother’s Day with her mom, Emelita.
Speaking to ABS-CBN News, Diaz shared how she came up with a plan to surprise her mother for the occasion.
Continuing her narration, the Olympic medalist said: “Pagbalik namin sa room, sabi ko, ‘Magmadali tayo kasi may taping.
Diaz and her mother were among the special guests at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila on Sunday where special dishes were prepared at the Spiral Buffet in time for Mother’s Day.
Gusto mo ma-try niya yung iba’t ibang pagkain so sabi ko best place,” she said.
