MANILA, Philippines -- Filipino football club Ceres Negros FC took one step closer to the 2018 AFC Cup ASEAN Zonal Finals after blasting Myanmar's Yangon United, 4-2, in the first leg of their ASEAN Zonal Semi-finals match-up, Wednesday evening at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod.
Playing in front of nearly nine-thousand strong, Spanish striker Bienve Marañon led the way for the inaugural PFL champions as he scored two of Ceres Negros' first three goals in the first half of action.
Marañon opened things up with a 29th minute goal, while Patrick Reichelt converted a goal of his own to double the home team's lead after 33 minutes.
Before the half, Marañon found the back of the net once more to make it a 3-0 lead.
Yangon's Sekou Sylla opened the second half with a 55th minute goal to avoid the shutout, but Super responded for Ceres Negros just eight minutes later to bring the lead back up to 3-1.
Sylla scored once more in the 83rd minute to make it a 4-2 final score in favor of Ceres Negros.
Yangon United will host Ceres Negros at the Thuwwuna Stadium in Yangon, Myanmar on Wednesday, May 16th.
The winner of the series will advance to the ASEAN Zonal Finals to take on either Singapore's Home United or Indonesia's Persija Jakarta. Home United took the first leg in Singapore, 3-2.
