MANILA, Philippines—The Barangay Ginebra Gin Kings converged in the San Miguel Corp. headquarters recently to repack N95 masks for frontliners, a task that the perennial crowd favorites took pride in.
For the Ginebra players, it was their own little way of helping out in the relief efforts as the country continued to battle the COVID-19 outbreak.
"I'm proud to be here," Ginebra coach Tim Cone said. "It's nice to be out of the house, but it's even more important to be here and to be doing something to help the people."
"It's a great idea that they called us here, and we were able to volunteer to do this," he added.
The masks repacked by the Gin Kings will be donated to 16 different hospitals by San Miguel Corp.

This isn't the first time the Ginebra brand has attached itself in efforts to fight the coronavirus.
In March, San Miguel Corp. president and COO Ramon Ang announced the company was producing disinfectant alcohol at a Ginebra San Miguel facility.
“We have the means and the capability to produce this and make it available for free to LGUs and public hospitals,” Ang said at the time.
San Miguel looked to donate the alcohol in bulk, in 20-liter containers and 1,000-liter tanks, he said.
