MANILA, Philippines – Filipino ring legend Manny Pacquiao still wants to fight American boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. but conceded that it may not be the right time for them to face off.

Mayweather is coming off a difficult fight against Argentine brawler Marcos Maidana, which saw him claim a majority decision but not before eating more punches than he did in 38 previous fights.

Pacquiao, who last April routed Timothy Bradley in a rematch, said he still wants to fight Mayweather, especially as it is a showdown that boxing fans continue to demand.

But a Pacquiao-Mayweather fight remains unlikely.

Pacquiao again stressed that the fate of their mega-fight is at the hands of the American superstar.

“Depende sa kanya,” he said.

Previous negotiations between the Pacquiao and Mayweather camps have fallen apart over various issues, including the purse split.

Recently, Mayweather said he will never work with Pacquiao’s promoter, Top Rank chief executive Bob Arum, ever again, dimming even more the hopes for the fight. -- With a report from Francis Canlas, ABS-CBN News SOKSARGEN.
