MANILA -- New-look De La Salle University made quite a first impression, mowing down University of Santo Tomas (UST), 72-49, in the first day of the 2019 Filoil Flying V Preseason Tournament, Sunday at Filoil Flying V Centre.
The Green Archers, with a new shot-caller and without six of the 13 players lined up last season, delivered the goods for a strong start to the preseason.
Showing the way was team captain Andrei Caracut who had 19 points, two rebounds, and two assists, while Encho Serrano and Joaqui Manuel chipped in nine markers, respectively.
Justine Baltazar took care of the paint with a 10-point, 11-rebound double-double, causing problems for foreign counterpart Soulemane Chabi Yo who had 16 markers and 17 boards, most coming in the second half.
Down by one after the opening salvo, La Salle turned it on in the middle periods, outscoring their opponents, 45-23.
For the Growling Tigers, former CESAFI MVP Dave Ando also had his own double-double with 12 points and 15 rebounds.
