MANILA – University of Santo Tomas point guard Renzo Subido has decided to skip the upcoming college basketball season, including the UAAP Season 80 tournament, citing dissatisfaction with his performance in his first three seasons with the Growling Tigers.
"After much reflection, I have decided to sit out this year of college basketball," Subido said in a statement.
"I have spent the last few weeks reassessing my performance during my first three years in the UAAP and I've arrived to the conclusion that I am not satisfied with how I've played," he added.
Subido played 40 games for UST, starting in only two of them. Over three seasons, he averaged 3.7 points, 1.2 rebounds, and 1.1 assists in 13.2 minutes of action.
His best game came in Season 79, when he fired 26 points in UST's 88-87 come-from-behind victory over University of the East. He was never able to duplicate that effort, however.
Subido said he will "dedicate the next months finding ways to improve my skills through the PBA D-League in order to return a stronger and better player."
"I'm sure that the team will do really well in the Filoil tournament and the upcoming UAAP season. I am surely going to root for the boys and I'm confident they can get a lot of wins," he added.
Subido is already training with the AMA Online Education Titans in the D-League.
