MANILA, Philippines -- University of Santo Tomas (UST) point guard Mark Nonoy joins the ranks of student-athletes who have been doing their part to help frontliners and healthcare workers during the novel coronavirus pandemic.
Nonoy, the UAAP Season 82 Rookie of the Year, has been home in La Carlota, Negros Occidental ever since UST barred its student-athletes from practicing due to the outbreak.
While the Growling Tiger and his family are safe and doing well, they are also giving back to the men and women who are helping secure their neighborhood.
Last Monday, Nonoy paid tribute to the military frontliners and barangay officials by preparing and distributing hundreds of packed meals for them.
"Gusto ko lang po talagang makatulong sa kanila dahil sa sacrifices nila para mapanatiling safe sa amin," said Nonoy.
He used his savings and pooled money from his family and friends to make the food drive possible.
"Napag-isipan po kasi naming wala naman kaming masyadong problema sa bahay pagdating sa pagkain kaya napag-isipan kong itulong na lang namin sa mga frontliners na nagsasakripisyo araw-araw para sa amin," said Nonoy.
The student-athletes of UST have been active in helping out the frontliners. One of their most prominent alumni, Sisi Rondina, is raising funds for the frontliners in Barangay Luz, Cebu by auctioning jerseys, and several UST athletes have supported her cause.
