MANILA, Philippines – The UAAP shines a spotlight on ballroom on Friday, when it holds the second Ballroom Formation Dance Competition at the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Quadricentennial Pavilion.
UST introduced ballroom as a competition event in 2016 when it hosted Season 79, and made Ballroom Formation a featured sport during the opening ceremonies.
No Ballroom Formation Dance Competition was held last year, but Season 81 host National University decided to bring back the sport for the current season.
Three universities will take part in this year's competition, as University of the Philippines (UP), Far Eastern University, and UST vie for top honors in two categories: standard and Latin ballroom.
The UP Ballroom Formation Team dominated in its debut in Season 79, winning the gold in both standard and Latin ballroom categories. UST placed second in both events. University of the East took the bronze in the Latin category, while De La Salle University placed third in the standard category.
Despite having fewer teams competing this season, all three universities vow to bring their A-game and wow the crowd with their smooth moves on the dance floor.
The Ballroom Formation Dance Competition is still considered a demonstration sport in Season 81, as it was when it debuted in Season 79.
Thus, the results will not factor into the final tally for the league's overall standings.
