MANILA, Philippines – Adamson University middle blocker Joy Dacoron has some choices to make after she concluded her UAAP volleyball career.

Dacoron wrapped up her stint in Adamson by scoring 11 points – including the match-winner – in a 25-20, 25-23, 25-19 sweep of University of the Philippines last Saturday. It was only the Lady Falcons' second win of the season. They finished with a 2-12 record in Season 81 and were mired at the bottom of the league.

For the fifth season in a row, Adamson missed the Final 4. Dacoron did not reach the semifinals even once in her collegiate career.

Yet afterward, all Dacoron could express was gratitude to the school that had given her an opportunity to show her talent.

"Buhay ko na 'yung Adamson. Nag-stay ako sa Adamson so 'yung Adamson is nasa blood ko na din. Ayaw kong umalis din sa Adamson na hindi ko tinapos 'yung career ko," said Dacoron, who buried the running hit that sealed the win for her team.

"Paalis na ako, pero lagi din akong babalik kung saan ako nanggaling," she added.

Where she is headed is the big question for Dacoron. She used to play for BanKo-Perlas in the Premier Volleyball League, but is currently not signed with any club. There's a slight chance that she might stop playing to pursue her other dreams.

"Passion ko rin 'yung pagtuturo, so pinag-iisipan ko. Sinabi ko rin kay Coach Onyok (Getigan) na 'Baka mag-stop ako coach, gusto ko tahakin muna 'yung for long-term na kung ano talaga 'yung passion na gusto ko,'" said Dacoron, who used to teach Financial Management courses in Adamson.

"Kasi alam naman natin na volleyball is hindi talaga pang-forever," she added.

Getigan, who took over for Air Padda three games into Season 81, has encouraged Dacoron to keep on playing, telling the player that she was at the peak of her career. With that in mind, Dacoron said she will consider offers if given any.

"So ayun, kung merong opportunity or merong mago-offer, I'll try to talk to them. Titimbangin ko kung saan papabor," she said. "Kung kayang i-balance, why not naman."

Managing her time between volleyball and other interests is the important factor for Dacoron moving forward. While she wants to keep playing, she also hopes to one day return to teaching, and is also overseeing the launch of her new enterprise.

Dacoron is set to open her own food business in Parañaque this month, after initially running it in Adamson.

"Pag may makausap akong mga teams na papayagan ako na one or two weeks akong wala sa training muna nila within this May, kasi asikasuhin ko yung foundation ng business ko, baka. Go ako dun," she said.

Regardless of how many options she has, however, Dacoron knows that it will be difficult for her to step away from volleyball.

"Nasa puso mo na rin ang pagiging volleyball player eh. Mahirap talaga, parang nakipag-break ka. Hindi ka pa ready," she said.
