MANILA, Philippines -- After its 95th season was cut short, the NCAA's 96th season will also be affected by the novel coronavirus pandemic.

NCAA Management Committee chairman Peter Cayco of Arellano University confirmed to ABS-CBN News that the opening of their new season will be delayed.

"(We) cannot open (in) July," Cayco said.

They have yet to determine a specific date as the Management Committee is still discussing plans for Season 96. Colegio de San Juan de Letran, the reigning champions in men's basketball, will serve as the host.

"ManCom is still working on it. Madami pa dapat i-consider," Cayco explained.

The committee is expected to have a concrete plan by Monday which will then be recommended to the NCAA Policy Board.

The NCAA terminated Season 95 on March 19, after the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) was implemented in Luzon. The league did not finish its competitions in volleyball, football, beach volleyball, and athletics, among others.

The annual cheerleading competition was also wiped out.

Metro Manila remains under ECQ until May 15. Under the guidelines of the quarantine, sports-related events including trainings and games are still barred from taking place.
