MANILA, Philippines – Rain or Shine is off to a flying start in the 2018 PBA Commissioner's Cup, thanks in part to the steady leadership of veteran guard Chris Tiu.
The 32-year-old Tiu averaged all-around numbers of 14 points, 6.5 assists, and 3 rebounds as Rain or Shine opened the midseason conference with wins over Alaska and Barangay Ginebra.
In the process, he earned the first PBA Press Corps Player of the Week award for the Commissioners' Cup.
Tiu had 18 points, six assists, and three rebounds to complement import Reggie Johnson's superb debut as the Elasto Painters outlasted a gritty Alaska team, 109-103, in overtime last Friday.
He showed no signs of fatigue as just two days later, he had 10 points, seven assists, and four rebounds to steer Rain or Shine to a comfortable 109-89 rout of Barangay Ginebra.
A one-time PBA 3-Point Shootout champion, Tiu bested teammate Raymond Almazan, along with TNT guards Jayson Castro, Terrence Romeo, and Jericho Cruz for the weekly citation for the period of April 22-29.
Rain or Shine currently shares the early lead with TNT at 2-0 and will next face NLEX on Wednesday when action shifts to the Ynares Center in Antipolo.
