For Ateneo standout fencer Maxine Esteban, being limited to the confines of her home amid the COVID-19 pandemic means having the opportunity to improve herself.

This is why the 2019 Southeast Asian Games bronze medalist enrolled herself in Ivy League online courses.

In fact, she finished not just one, not three, but nine such courses.

Esteban, Season 81 rookie of the year and Most Valuable Player, posted a photo on Instagram of the certificates she earned from Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and Yale University.

“Encouraging everyone to be productive this quarantine period in your own way,” she said in her caption.

The courses she completed include Wharton courses Entrepreneurship 1 (Developing the Opportunity), Entrepreneurship 2 (Launching your start-up), Entrepreneurship 3 (Growth Strategies), Entrepreneurship 4 (Financing and Profitability), Viral Marketing and How to Craft Contagious Content, Introduction to Marketing, and Customer Analytic.

Esteban, 19, also finished the Financial Markets and Introduction to Negotiation courses from Yale.

Esteban is currently taking up Management Engineering in Ateneo.

She recently raised P500,000 worth of items for the frontliners and families severely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
