LUCENA CITY — San Miguel's June Mar Fajardo and GlobalPort's Terrence Romeo lead a stacked team that will represent the country in the Southeast Asian Basketball Association Championship next month.
The other players on the Gilas Pilipinas roster include Alaska's Calvin Abueva, Ginebra's Japeth Aguilar, Rain Or Shine's Raymond Almazan. Andray Blatche, Star teammates Jio Jalalon and Allein Maliksi. TNT's Jayson Castro, RR Pogoy and Troy Rosario and Phoenix's Matthew Wright.
"I think (the lineup is) very balanced. It's very versatile. It has size and I think it has a great combination of rookies and veterans, rookies to the Gilas system, rookies to the PBA and veterans as well," Gilas coach Chot Reyes said.
Reyes made the announcement after Friday night's PBA Luzon All-Star Game here between a select squad plucked from Reyes' aspirants' pool and a team composed of the league's top players.
Based on the makeup of the Gilas roster, Reyes' message is clear — dominate the Seaba.
"I don't want to call it the final 12. This is merely the Seaba 12 because in the future, there are some players in the team who are in team because we want to take a look at them in international competition. And then that's going to form our decision on the FIBA Asia (roster) if we make it," he said.
The Seaba tournament, a regional qualifier for the FIBA Asia Cup in August, takes place at Araneta Coliseum from May 12 to 18.
"There's a lot more tournaments for this team. This is the just first step," said Reyes.
