MANILA, Philippines -- Their disappointing performance against rival De La Salle University was the farthest thing on the minds of the Ateneo de Manila University Lady Eagles on Wednesday, when they roared back to the win column of the UAAP Season 81 tournament.
Ateneo improved to 11-2 in the season with a 25-16, 28-26, 25-17 triumph over Adamson University, allowing them to secure a twice-to-beat edge in the Final 4.
Though they labored in the second frame, it was still a far better performance for the Lady Eagles who registered 11 kill blocks this time around after failing to get one rejection against the Lady Spikers last April 13.
However, they made it clear that their defeat to the defending champions were no longer on their minds.
"Tapos na 'yung game," dismissed middle blocker Maddie Madayag, who had 13 points including 3 blocks. "We don't dwell on the past."
"We always move forward," added head coach Oliver Almadro.
Already, the Lady Eagles are focused on their next assignment -- their final elimination round game against University of the East on Sunday. A win will secure them the No. 1 seed in the Final 4.
The Lady Eagles stressed that their full focus is on that match, rather than on the Final 4. Moreover, their performance against Adamson showed that "there's a lot to work on" for their team.
"Focus kami now on the last game, next time na 'yung semis," said team captain Bea de Leon. "May isa pa kaming trabaho na kailangan tapusin, then saka na kami tutungo sa semis."
"One step at a time," added Madayag. "Dapat hindi namin iniisip 'yung following game. We have to focus on who we're gonna play against, kasi you won't finish it right if hindi kami naka-focus sa team na dapat kina-kalaban namin."
