MANILA, Philippines -- De La Salle University (DLSU) has secured the commitment of Filipino-American spiker Jade Fuentes, who played volleyball for Eagle Rock High School in Los Angeles.
The 5-foot-11 Fuentes announced her decision on Monday, after a high school career that saw her help her team win a city championship.
"So stoked and incredibly blessed to be able to announce that I will be joining the La Salle family in the Philippines," she said on Instagram.
In explaining her decision, Fuentes said she "really loved the atmosphere" in La Salle.
"It's one of the top schools in the Philippines," she added. "The amount of energy and support that the fans have is just so incredible."
"I can't wait to be playing at the next level and to go outside of my comfort zone and be a part of this team," the outside hitter said.
Fuentes joins a loaded La Salle team that already features up-and-coming talents like Thea Gagate, Leila Cruz, and Baby Jyne Soreno.
She is expected to be available for Season 83.
"I'm so excited to meet you guys and be a part of the DLSU family," she said in a message to La Salle fans.
UAAP Season 82 events were officially cancelled last week due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, putting an abrupt end to the women's volleyball tournament. La Salle played just one game, beating defending champion Ateneo de Manila University in four sets.
