MANILA, Philippines -- With the basketball scene in the Philippines grinding to a halt, arena barker Christopher "Top" Juliano has returned to his other passion -- that of being an ER nurse.
Juliano is well-known in basketball circles as the arena barker in MPBL and ABL games, having gotten his big break nearly five years ago before establishing himself as an announcer.
After initially juggling his careers as a nurse and a budding barker, Juliano eventually chose to focus on his career as a venue announcer in 2015, and has since been a staple in games.
"Towards the latter part of 2015, when I got a break sa NCAA and UAAP, doon medyo mas nag-take off na 'yung career ko," he explained in an interview with Migs Bustos.
All games are currently suspended, however, giving Juliano a chance to return to his old stomping grounds in one of the biggest hospitals in Los Banos, Laguna, where he is an ER nurse.
He returned to the frontlines after working the MPBL southern division finals game between Zamboanga and Basilan, after a two-week quarantine.
"For me, it's not just about the job that we are doing," Juliano said. "It's also about your personal commitment to helping humanity through this."
"This is my other passion," he added. "Kaya kailangan natin ding i-fulfill ang duties natin."
