MANILA, Philippines – Far Eastern University (FEU) head coach George Pascua let the Lady Tamaraws talk among themselves on Wednesday, after their poor performance against Ateneo de Manila University in the UAAP Season 81 tournament.

The Lady Tamaraws started the match on a promising note, dropping a close first set to the Lady Eagles. But they fell apart in the second frame and never recovered, and Ateneo went on to take a 25-21, 25-10, 25-18 triumph.

"I think our receiving wasn't that good in the second set, so we couldn't create that many plays. Ateneo's block was really tough, so," said FEU team captain Jerrili Malabanan, who led the Lady Tams in scoring with just 8 points.

The Lady Tams spent a long while inside their dugout at the FilOil Flying V Centre after the game, and Malabanan revealed afterward that Pascua instructed them to discuss what happened.

"Well, obviously a lot of us were disappointed with the way that we played. Coach told us that he wanted us to talk as a team, so we're just talking about the things that we didn't do during the game that we wanted to," she said.

Pascua did give some notes. Malabanan said their coach was displeased that the Lady Tams did not follow their coach's instructions regarding their defensive patterns.

"Like coach said, if we don't follow the defense pattern or what he teaches us, then that's what's gonna happen," she said.

At the same time, Malabanan also revealed that Pascua challenged them after their game, which prevented FEU from earning a share of second place in the league standings.

"Coach said that he wants less talk, and more action," she said.

The Lady Tams have a chance to respond to Pascua's challenge on Saturday, when they face off against University of the Philippines (UP) in a crucial contest. Both teams have identical 6-4 win-loss slates – the same record as University of Santo Tomas.

Saturday's match between UP and FEU will have massive implications on the Final 4 race, and Malabanan knows they have to be mentally ready for it.

"We're really disappointed with the way that we played (against Ateneo)," she said. "But like what coach said, after each game, just learn from it and move on to the next game."
