CEBU CITY — Philippine Sports Commission official Ramon Fernandez on Tuesday filed a libel case or grave oral defamation against Jose Cojuangco Jr., president of the Philippine Olympic Committee.

Fernandez filed his case before the Cebu City Prosecutor’s Office.

In his affidavit, Fernandez, who is seeking P10 million in damages, alleged that Cojuangco made defamatory statements against him, including calling him a "game-fixer."

Fernandez told sports media recently: "(Cojuangco is) entitled to his opinion. It's hard to argue with Peping Cojuangco because he's an old man. He believes in his own lies.

"With what he told you guys, he didn't have the chance to prove that in the proper forum and I'm bringing him to court to Cebu City to answer all his accusations."

Fernandez has been critical of the way Cojuangco had managed the POC.

Cojuangco shot back at Fernandez with game-fixing allegations.

“Kung ikaw nakakapagtapon ka ng game para sa pera, key member ka ng team, gusto mo bang ganun ang mamahala ng sports natin? How would the athletes feel na ang boss nila ay ganung klaseng tao?” Cojuangco said.
