The Philippine Sports Commission said it is converting the Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Manila into a quarantine facility to address a looming shortage of hospital and quarantine space amid the COVID-19 epidemic.
The PSC is working with the Manila city government and the Armed Forces of the Philippines to set up 112 beds at the venue located in the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.
PSC chief of staff Marc Velasco inspected the on-going installation of bed units together with the city disaster risk reduction and management office and barangay chairman Elizabeth Platon.
There are 3,018 cases of coronavirus infections across the country with 136 deaths, based on the latest government count.
