MANILA, Philippines – Far Eastern University (FEU) will be without its leading scorer when they play Ateneo de Manila University in the second round of UAAP Season 81 on Wednesday, but that only gives the Lady Eagles more reason to be wary.

Rookie Lycha Ebon, who averages 14.375 points for the Lady Tams, is out for at least three more weeks after suffering a knee injury in their game against Adamson University last March 24.

She will be re-evaluated after Easter, but is certain to miss FEU's next four games – starting with their crucial match-up against the Lady Eagles on Wednesday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

"We really hope na maging okay na si Lycha," said Ateneo head coach Oliver Almadro ahead of the game. "We will be preparing for FEU."

Almadro pointed out that even without Ebon, FEU remains a "no-nonsense" team, and a tough contender. The Lady Tams showed their grit last Saturday, when they outlasted University of the East in a five-set marathon that saw plenty of players step up while Ebon watched from the sidelines.

"FEU with Kuya George (Pascua), institution sa FEU 'yan. 'Yung winning tradition niya, 'yan 'yung pinapasa niya sa players niya, kahit anong team hawakan niya," said Almadro.

"And with the history of FEU, ‘yung winning tradition nila sobrang taas so if you really want to win against FEU, dapat pantayan o lagpasan ‘yung intensity nila, ‘yung energy nila," he added.

Four players scored in double-digits for FEU against the Lady Warriors, with Ivana Agudo – who took Ebon's place in the starting line-up – leading the way with 12 markers.

Almadro expects the Lady Tams to come in with even greater intensity come Wednesday.

"We really have to respect them," he stressed. "We will be preparing, we will be practicing, and we will be showing our character also."

Ateneo outlasted FEU in five sets when they played in the first round, with the Lady Eagles clawing their way out of two-set hole to stun the Lady Tamaraws.
