MANILA, Philippines – National University (NU) and Ateneo de Manila University secured the twice-to-beat incentives in the first-ever men's Final 4 in UAAP lawn tennis, after posting convincing wins on Sunday at the Colegio de San Agustin courts in City of San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan.

The Bulldogs blanked De La Salle University, 5-0, while the Blue Eagles overpowered University of the East (UE), 4-1, to march on in the Season 81 tournament.

In the other tie to cap the seven-team, double-round eliminations, University of Santo Tomas (UST) nipped University of the Philippines (UP), 3-2.

The loss dropped UP to a 5-7 record and formally eliminated them from the Final 4 race. The Red Warriors also clinched the last semifinals berth in the process.

In the Final 4 at 8 a.m. on Saturday, top-ranked NU (11-1) will face No. 4 UE (6-6), while No. 2 Ateneo (10-2) will take on third-ranked UST (7-5) in the other pairing.

The Bulldogs and the Blue Eagles will need to win just once to advance to the championship tie.

In the women's division, NU and Ateneo forge a playoff for the remaining finals slot after hurdling their respective final elimination round tie.

The Lady Bulldogs swept La Salle, 5-0, while the Lady Eagles fashioned out a 4-1 win over dethroned champion UST.

Despite the loss, only the second in eight ties, the Lady Archers are assured of a spot in the best-of-three championship.

NU and Ateneo, which had identical 5-3 slates, will clash in a playoff for the right to face La Salle in the finals at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday.
