MANILA (UPDATED) -- Retired American boxing superstar Floyd Mayweather arrived in the holiday island of Boracay on Sunday morning.

Mayweather flew from Manila, where his private plane touched down around 3:30 a.m. He was in Maldives before this.

He checked in at Boracay's Movenpick Hotel Resort and Spa, where he had chicken and salad for lunch.

The boxing icon was accompanied by his Filipino friend Lester Codog of Foilacar Industries.

Mayweather and Philippine Senator Manny Pacquiao could meet in private if the latter's schedule permits, said Codog.

The American boxer's visit was planned less than a day ago, he added.

Mayweather defeated Pacquiao nearly 4 years ago, and the Filipino boxing champion has since been calling out the former for a possible rematch.

The 2 former pound-for-pound kings came face-to-face in Japan September of last year.

When asked directly about a rematch at that time, Pacquiao placed the ball squarely on Mayweather's court.

"Tell him to come back to the ring, and we will fight," Pacquiao said to Showtime's Jim Gray.

The "Pacman" last won a 12-round victory over American challenger Adrien Broner to make a successful defense of his WBA welterweight belt. Mayweather, who beat Pacquiao via unanimous decision in their "Fight of the Century" four years ago, watched at ringside as his Filipino rival made light work of Broner.

"I'm willing to fight again (against) Floyd Mayweather," Pacquiao has said several times. "If he's willing to come back in boxing."

Mayweather had not fought in a sanctioned boxing match since August 2017, when he stopped Conor McGregor in the 10th round of their much-hyped showdown. He stepped back into the ring on New Year's Eve, however, for an exhibition match against Japanese kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa.

After that bout, Mayweather reiterated that he was still retired.

Asked by Gray about a possible Pacquiao rematch on live TV just after Pacquiao beat Broner, Mayweather remained stony-faced and silent when he was shown on camera.

The first bout between Pacquiao and Mayweather took more than half a decade to put together, before they finally faced off on May 2, 2015. The American star won comfortably, and Pacquiao would later reveal that he fought with an injured right shoulder.
