MANILA, Philippines -- The Philippine volleyball community continues to step up in times of need, this time helping to raise funds for frontliners in the fight against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Creamline Cool Smashers setter Jia Morado and her boyfriend, Miguel de Guzman, set up an initiative to raise funds for frontliners at the Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center and the Philippine General Hospital.
On Friday, Morado announced that she will auction off her Ateneo jersey from UAAP Season 79 to aid their cause.
Former La Salle star Ara Galang also contributed her own jersey to be auctioned off, with bids starting at P1,200. The last bid will be accepted on April 1.
Also stepping up were the spikers from University of Santo Tomas, who submitted their jerseys as a set. Eya Laure, Maji Mangulabnan, Imee Hernandez, Det Pepito and Janna Torres all contributed their jerseys from Season 80 -- their last year together in high school -- to be auctioned off as well.
Bidding starts at P5,000, with the last bid to be accepted on April 3.
As of March 28, Morado said they have raised over P236,000 pesos and "are about to reach our goal."
Bids are accepted through the Every Little Thing Counts Facebook page. They are also accepting donations via G-Cash.
