CALASIAO, Pangasinan -- (UPDATED) The dominance continues for Rey Guevarra of Phoenix after winning his fifth Slam Dunk contest title in the PBA All-Star, cementing his place in pro-league history.

Guevarra wowed the audience and judges in final round, scoring a perfect 100 to defend his crown at the Calasiao Sports Complex on Friday.

“Fafa Rey” lifted the Slam Dunk trophy in 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2018. He now joins KG Canaleta for most dunk titles in PBA history with five apiece.

“Siyempre sobrang special kasi na-tie ko 'yung idol ko, si KG,” Guevarra said. He also topped the first round with 95 points.

Guevarra scored a perfect 50 in his first attempt in the championship round after a windmill dunk. He then tallied another 50 after a one-handed choreographed slam between all of his teammates in Phoenix.

“‘Yung last na dunk ko, si coach Louie, one time sa practice bigla niya kong tinawag. ‘Rey, napanood mo ba ‘yung mga nasa Facebook ngayon na kumakalat na mga video na ‘yung warm-up di ba sa mga team, ‘yung tumatalon lahat?’ Sabi niya, ‘Gawin mo kaya 'yun,’” Guevarra revealed.

“Ayun, tapos nag-usap-usap kami na gawin namin. Tutal nandito sila lahat. So tinake advantage ko na,” he added.

Guevarra admitted that Canaleta asked him to win this year so he can return to the slam dunk competition in the next All-Star weekend.

The Phoenix’s reserve forward overpowered Renz Palma of Blackwater and CJ Perez of Columbian in the final round.

Palma had a chance to challenge Guevarra anew after a perfect 50 of his own courtesy of a dunk over six cagers. However, he failed to convert a successful one in the second attempt after missing the bounce pass from Beau Belga off the stands. He only registered 25 points after the miss dunks.

Lervin Flores of Northport also participated in the competition but struggled during the preliminary round.
