MANILA, Philippines -- (UPDATED) University of Santo Tomas regained its winning ways in style as the Golden Tigresses made quick work of skidding Adamson University on Wednesday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

The Golden Tigresses were rarely bothered in a comfortable 25-15, 25-12, 25-16 triumph over the Lady Falcons in the UAAP Season 81 women's volleyball tournament.

The quick 73-minute win allowed UST to bounce back from a painful five-set loss to Ateneo de Manila University in their previous contest, and improve their record to 6-3.

As it stands, they are in solo second place behind the Lady Eagles.

"Happy kami at maganda pa rin ang standing namin," said UST head coach Kungfu Reyes after the game.
"Lahat nag-deliver, nag-perform nang maayos, at walang injury. Kahit hindi lahat lumabas 'yung play, gumana naman ang gitna," added UST captain Sisi Rondina.

Rookie ace Eya Laure led the Tigresses with 17 points, but it was unheralded middle blocker Caitlyn Viray who earned Player of the Game honors after putting up 14 points, including 3 kill blocks. Rondina added 10 points, and Dimdim Pacres contributed 12 markers.

The Golden Tigresses cruised to victory in the opening set but trailed early in the second set, 6-3. It turned out to be just a blip for UST, however; they won 22 of the next 28 points to claim another quick win and take a 2-0 lead in the match.

UST surged to a 6-1 lead in the third set, with Adamson throwing away points due to unforced errors. Late miscues from the Tigresses briefly kept the Lady Falcons afloat but ultimately UST proved too strong, with Viray, Laure, and Pacres taking turns in hammering at Adamson's defense.

"Masaya kami kasi nakita ulit ang teamwork namin," said Laure. "Binigay talaga namin 'yung best namin."

The Lady Falcons dropped their fifth match in a row, falling to 1-8 on the season. Adamson is on the brink of elimination from the Final 4 race.

No Adamson player reached double-digits, with Bern Flora contributing 8 points. As a team, Adamson had only 18 attack points.

The game was the antithesis of the first round showdown between Adamson and UST, which saw the Lady Falcons drag the Golden Tigresses to a five-set war before ultimately fading down the stretch.
