NBA: Blazers acquire Norman Powell from Raptors

The Toronto Raptors traded guard Norman Powell to the Portland Trail Blazers in exchange for shooting guards Gary Trent Jr. and Rodney Hood, the teams announced Thursday.

Powell, 27, emerged as a force for the Raptors this season, averaging 19.6 points over 42 games (31 starts). The former second-round pick (2015) has averaged 9.9 points in 349 career games, all with Toronto.

"Norman accomplished so much with the Raptors. He committed to the process, he worked on his game, he grew as a person, and he thrived as a player," Raptors President Masai Ujiri said. 

"Norman gave us great performances to remember. Norman is an NBA Champion, and he has earned his place as one of the great success stories in franchise history. We are grateful for everything he did for our team and our city."

In return, the Blazers are giving up their third-leading scorer in Trent, who is averaging 15.0 points over 41 games (23 starts).

Trent, 22, improved from 8.9 points per game last season. In 117 career games (32 starts), all with Portland, Trent has avergaed 10.2 points.

Hood, 28, has averaged 4.7 points in 38 appearances (five starts) this season.
