MANILA, Philippines – Adamson University's chances of advancing to the UAAP Season 81 Final 4 are becoming ever dimmer, after the Lady Falcons absorbed a fourth straight loss last Sunday.

Twice squandering a one-set advantage, Adamson succumbed to Far Eastern University in five sets: 32-30, 20-25, 25-23, 20-25, 13-15. That dropped them to 1-7 in the women's volleyball tournament.

As it stands, the Lady Falcons will need to win the rest of their assignments if they hope to stay alive in the hunt for a semifinal spot, starting with a date with University of Santo Tomas on Wednesday.

Adamson skipper Eli Soyud vowed that the Lady Falcons will fight until the end, regardless of how slim their chances are.

"Sabi nga ni Coach Onyok (Getigan), push pa rin. Laban lang ng laban," she said. "Kahit anong mangyari basta every game may improvement sa team namin."

Soyud led Adamson in scoring against FEU, tallying 17 points on 13 attacks. But like many of her teammates, she also committed some untimely miscues that gave openings to the Lady Tamaraws.

Still, that they pushed the Lady Tamaraws to five sets – for the second time this season – gives Soyud reason to be optimistic. Getigan has only been in charge of the team for five games, but already, the captain is seeing plenty of growth.

"Andoon na 'yung kapit, andoon na 'yung hindi naggi-give up agad, 'yung paghabol namin andoon na. Unti-unti na naming nabubuo. Sobrang laking tulong noong mga ginagawa namin sa training," she said.

Unfortunately for Adamson, they still struggle to close out games, as they showed against FEU when they faltered in the fourth set, and again in the fifth.

"May huminto," Soyud said. "Kasi lahat, andoon na eh, nakukuha na. Siguro, sa sobrang kaba… parang wala na 'yung presence sa loob."

Regardless, she is not losing hope.

"Siyempre 'yung goal namin is manalo pa rin. Kung kakayanin umabot ng Final 4, 'yun pa rin ang main goal namin," she stressed.

As for Soyud, she intends to make the most of the final stretch of her UAAP career.

"Laban pa rin," said Soyud, who is averaging 13.125 points per game for the Lady Falcons in her last season.

"Kahit anong mangyari, basta kahit patapos na, okay lang. Basta naga-guide ko yung mga bata, nakakatulong ako sa loob," she added.
