MANILA, Philippines -- Barangay Ginebra star Japeth Aguilar and his wife, Cassandra, are raising funds to buy face masks for Filipino health workers, they announced on Tuesday.
On Instagram, Aguilar said they intend to donate 2,000 face masks to frontliners.
They have set up a Facebook page, Supply Surgical Masks to Health Personnel in the Philippines, to post updates about their crowdfunding drive.
According to a post from Cassandra, they have found a supplier that sells masks and they intend to donate 40 boxes.
"I'm looking for more donations to be able to help hospital staff. Most hospitals have no more masks and alcohol and are encouraged to bring their own masks or use makeshift masks," Cassandra wrote.
"As we are sitting in the comfort of our own homes, frontliners are risking their lives to save ours. Let's help them in any way we can.
If you have any amount you can spare, this will go a long way.
People who wish to donate can do so via PayPal or BDO.
They have also set up a Google Docs page to track donations.
As of March 18, there are 197 recorded cases of COVID-19 in the Philippines.
