MANILA, Philippines – Floyd Mayweather Jr. hasn’t seen the Manny Pacquiao-Joshua Clottey fight yet, at least according to some members of his team.
According to BoxingScene.com’s Rick Reeno, two members of Team Mayweather have denied internet reports containing Floyd’s critique regarding Pacquiao’s performance with Clottey.
"Floyd did not do any interviews. Floyd has not watched the fight yet," one member of Team Mayweather said in Reeno's report.
Numerous internet articles cited Mayweather as saying that Pacquiao remained a “one-dimensional fighter” against the defense-conscious Clottey.
Team Mayweather dispelled the reports, saying that they were 100% fabricated.
“The interview first originated on a website called Cage Report.
Numerous websites and overseas newspapers have used quotes from the interview,” Reeno said in his article.
The Cage Report story quoted Mayweather as saying that Pacquiao and Clottey had a boring fight.
“I think Pacquiao gave the fans a boring fight. He was punching his (Clottey) arms for all 12 rounds. At least when you watch Floyd Mayweather you know you’ll be seeing non-stop action for 30 minutes straight and that’s what you’ll see on May 1st," Mayweather allegedly said.
Freddie Roach, however, retorted on the idea that controversial boxer didn’t see Pacquiao’s latest fight. "I don't believe that," he said.
Talks of the much-awaited yet botched Pacquiao-Mayweather bout gained ground again after Pacquiao’s latest victory.
“‘Yun naman ang gusto ko (That’s what I want),” Pacquiao told Abac Cordero of The Philippine Star. “It’s up to him. I have no problem fighting him. But I don’t think he’s ready now.”
Pacquiao’s adviser, Rex "Wakee" Salud, for his part, said: “I think the fight will happen. It has to happen… “I think it (Pacquiao-Mayweather) will happen this year.”
