(UPDATED) Rain or Shine raised its chances of finishing within the top 2 by fighting off Meralco, 88-85, in its last game in the PBA Philippine Cup eliminations at the Cuneta Astrodome on Friday.
After trailing Rain or Shine in the first half, Meralco used a huge run to force the Elasto Painters to a 85-all deadlock.
But Gabe Norwood and Beau Belga were able to nose Rain or Shine past Meralco via crucial free throws late in the game.
Baser Amer tried to bring the lead back to the Bolts but both his attempts from the 3-point area failed to hit the mark.
James Yap had 14 points for Rain or Shine, while Ed Daquioag added 12 points. Jayvee Mocon and Maverick Ahanmisi had 10 markers each.
Now with a record of 8-3, the Elasto Painters currently own the top standing in the league. A top 2 finish after the eliminations will guarantee them a twice-to-beat advantage in the quarterfinal round.
