MANILA, Philippines – Kendra Dahlke was superb once more as the import-powered PLDT Home Fibr past a struggling Foton squad in four sets in the 2019 Philippine Superliga Grand Prix on Thursday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Dahlke delivered the clutch hits in PLDT's 25-16, 27-25, 22-25, 26-24 triumph – their fifth against four losses.
After erupting for 30 points in their previous game, Dahlke remained in rhythm and scored five points in the 6-2 blast that put the Power Hitters at match point, 24-20, in the fourth set.
Foton imports Milagros Collar and Courtney Felinski each scored two hits to keep the Tornadoes in the match, 24-24, but Dahlke converted a beautiful drop shot that helped PLDT seal the win.
Grace Lazard led PLDT with 25 points on 16 kills, six aces, 3 blocks, and 11 digs, while Dahlke chipped in 18 hits.
Sasa Devanadera and Aiko Urdas also delivered significant numbers, adding 12 and 11 markers, respectively, for the Power Hitters, who climbed to no. 4 with a 5-4 win-loss slate.
However, PLDT head coach Roger Gorayeb was far from satisfied, especially after the fourth set where the Tornadoes gave them a scare.
"We were leading by four, 24-20, but the service error of Grace allowed them to come back," said Gorayeb, heaving a sigh of relief after his wards restored order.
"I'm glad they were able to recover. It's good that they displayed composure and showed that they can recover from an ugly loss in the third set."
Collar, who replaced Turkish Selime Ilyasoglu over the weekend, had 24 points while Felinski added 16 hits and 11 excellent receptions for Foton, which suffered their eight straight loss after opening the season with a victory.
