For the past couple of years, Jerwin Ancajas has been training in a "Survival Camp" at his home in Magallanes, Cavite.

But to prepare for his IBF junior bantamweight mandatory title defense against Japan's Ryuichi Funai, Ancajas will move his camp to the Philippine Marine Base in Ternate, Cavite this month.

"Pupunta kami sa Marines doon kami magtraining sa Ternate," said Joven Jimenez, Ancajas' coach and manager.

"Pero pupunta pa rin kami sa camp for sparring."

Jimenez said he will have Ancajas running at the base's track oval as part of his speed and endurance training.

"Sa amin kasi walang oval. Kung pupunta kaming Tagaytay, masyadong malayo. Gusto namin nandoon na ang lahat ng gamit," said the coach.

Jimenez wants to make sure that Ancajas' stamina will be on point to avoid settling for another draw just like he did against Mexican Alejandro Santiago Barrios last September.

Ancajas still has 6 weeks of training before he squares off against Funai on May 4 in Stockton, California.

The Panabo City native is nearing his peak conditioning.

"Nasa 87 to 88 percent na siya. At umaakyat na kami up to 8 rounds ng sparring," said Jimenez.
