Filipino pug stops foe in 'Pacman-Clottey' undercard

MANILA, Philippines – Filipino fighter Eden Sonsona defeated his Colombian foe in the undercard of “The Event,” which features Joshua Clottey and 7-division world champion Manny Pacquiao in the main event.

According to, Sonsona won over Mauricio Pastrana via technical knockout in the final round of their 8-round bout.

Sonsona (21-5, 7 KOs) is the cousin of former former World Boxing Organization (WBO) super flyweight champion Marvin Sonsona while Pastrana (35-13-2, 23 KOs) is a former WBO NABO super bantamweight champion.

Jeff Zimmerman and David Finger of reported, “Sonsona dropped Pastrana earlier in the round before finishing him off at 1:33.”

Sonsona earlier scored a knockdown in Round 3.

Meanwhile, another undercard fight featuring a Filipino ended in a no contest.

The fight between Filipino Michael Farenas (27-2-3, 24 KOs) and American Joe Morales (20-13, 4 KOs) ended in a no contest “when a clash of heads in the second round opened an ugly cut over the right eye of Morales.”

 Zimmerman and Finger added that “Farenas was in total control up to the time of the stoppage.”

“The Event” is being held at the Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
