MANILA, Philippines – Former De La Salle University guard Robert Bolick had several options after deciding to leave the Green Archers but eventually opted to move to the reigning NCAA champions San Beda Red Lions.

Bolick was a part of the La Salle squad that won the Season 76 UAAP championship, but his playing time dropped in Season 77, as he averaged 9.1 minutes per game, averaging 1.8 points per contest.

"Gusto ko magpasalamat sa La Salle, of course," Bolick told ABS-CBNnews.com recently. "Nanalo ako ng isang championship, and hindi ko makalimutan 'yun, siyempre. I was part of the team that won a championship."

"Pero ganoon talaga," he added. "You have to choose what's best for you."

Bolick practiced with University of the Philippines and Ateneo de Manila University, and said he felt welcomed in both squads. But in the end, he chose San Beda College because he could not pass up the opportunity to play for head coach Jamike Jarin.

"Feeling ko, Coach Jamike's system (ang) mas makakatulong sa akin in the future," he said.

Bolick said Jarin, a former coach of the Ateneo Blue Eaglets as well as the Batang Gilas, can take care of players and develop them.

"Paano siya mag-alaga ng player, (he) feels like a dad, parang inaalagaan niya talaga," Bolick said. "Kailangan ko din 'yun. Gabay din sa player, so siyempre, doon na ako."

"Nakakapag-develop din s'ya. Pinapanood ko kung sino 'yung mga nade-develop n'ya, like Batang Gilas, so sabi ko, this is where I'm supposed to be."

Bolick will undergo a one-year residency period and will be eligible to play for San Beda in 2016, the year after current star point guard Baser Amer graduates.

He said he will use the one-year lay-off to work on his game so that he will be ready to step in and contribute immediately once he is qualified to play.

"Siguro, work out, work out for a year," he said. "Shooting, more shooting, defensive drills. Lahat, kailagan kong gawin. Kailangan kong mag-improve. Marami pa akong kailangang gawin eh."

"So this year, siguro support sa NCAA, laro sa Team B. Pero kailangan ko talaga magpalaki ng katawan, shooting. Ganoon muna," he added.
