MANILA, Philippines – College of St. Benilde (CSB) emerged as the overall champion in the seniors division of the NCAA for the second straight season, while San Beda College claimed a fifth general championship in the high school division.
The Blazers won just two championships – men's table tennis and men's beach volleyball – but made up for it by finishing second in men's and women's swimming, men's taekwondo, women's table tennis, and men's volleyball; and placing third in chess, women's volleyball, football, and soft tennis.
CSB collected 660 points to finish ahead of San Beda (second), Arellano University (third), and Emilio Aguinaldo College (fourth).
"This is a tribute to the hard work of our teams," CSB management committee representative Dax Castellano said.
San Beda ended up winning the most titles with victories in basketball, men's and women's swimming, men's and women's taekwondo, women's table tennis, football, and soft tennis, but finished with 568.5 points and had to settle for second place.
The Red Cubs were dominant in the high school division, however, as they accumulated a league-best 400 points, besting CSB's 322.5.
Letran College, EAC, and San Sebastian College finished third, fourth, and fifth, respectively.
The Red Cubs triumphed in basketball, table tennis and lawn tennis, and ended up second in swimming, badminton and football, and third in chess and taekwondo.
