Meralco needed one mighty push in the second overtime to finally beat a highly competitive NorthPort side, 126-123, in the PBA Philippine Cup at the Araneta Coliseum on Friday.

Baser Amer instigated an 8-0 run that eventually closed out the Batang Pier and brought life to the Bolts’ quarterfinals bid in the season-opening tournament.

Chris Newsome topped Meralco with 28 points, 12 rebounds, 7 assists, and 4 steals for an all-around performance that helped the Bolts break out of a 3-game slump.

Amer added 23 points for the Bolts, who fought back facing a 6-point deficit to force the first overtime.

Meralco thus ended a 3-game losing streak and now has 3 wins against 5 defeats.

It handed the Batang Pier's fourth defeat in 6 games, ruining Stanley Pringle’s 33-point performance.

Sean Anthony added 31 points and 16 rebounds for NorthPort.
