MANILA, Philippines – Arellano University launches its bid for a third straight championship when the NCAA Season 93 athletics competition kicks off on Thursday at the Philsports Oval in Pasig City.
After ending Jose Rizal University's (JRU) five-year title reign two seasons ago, the Chiefs went on to retain their crown by accumulating 740 points to edge eventual second-placer Mapua University last year.
Mapua is expected to contend again in Season 93, along with JRU, De La Salle-College of St. Benilde, and University of Perpetual Help.
Arellano coach Paulino Coloma will rely on their long-distance runners and throwers to serve as the foundation of their title defense.
Eight golds will be at stake in Day 1 in the seniors' pole vault, juniors discus throw and long jump, and seniors long jump in the morning events, followed by the seniors discus throw, juniors and seniors 100m, and juniors 200m in the afternoon.
Twelve golds will be at stake in Day 2 and four in Day 3.
PATAFA chief Philip Juico will open the tournament.
