Carlo Paalam showed poise and experience to outclass Afghanistan's Ramish Rahmani and move to the next round of the Asia-Oceania Boxing Qualification Tournament for the 2020 Olympics in Amman, Jordan on Saturday.

The crafty Filipino, who won gold in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, fashioned out a 5-0 win by using his range and superior counter punching to fluster Rahmani in the round of 16 of the flyweight class.

He will next battle top seed Amit Panghal of India, who has beaten Paalam, for the chance to reach the semifinals which automatically qualifies him for the Tokyo Olympics.

Also fighting on Saturday is women's flyweight boxer Irish Magno.

Already set to fight in the next round are Filipino boxers Ian Clark Bautista, Nesthy Petecio, Eumir Marcial and Riza Pasuit.
