MANILA, Philippines – Che'Lu Bar&Grill-San Sebastian College nearly squandered a double-digit lead, but did enough in the closing stretch to defeat Gamboa Coffee Mix-St. Clare College, 79-73, in the 2018 PBA D-League Aspirants' Cup on Tuesday.
The Revellers led comfortably, 71-57, with just 3:30 to go before Trevis Jackson and Aris Dionisio conspired in a blistering 16-4 run that made it a two-point game, 75-73, with still 23.4 seconds left to play.
Che'Lu-San Sebastian left the door open when Samboy de Leon missed a pair of free throws with 17.1 seconds left. But he was quick to redeem himself, grabbing the offensive rebound then draining two charities to ice the game with 15.2 left to play.
"Thank God, naka-survive ulit kami," a relieved coach Stevenson Tiu said after the game. "Crucial ito, kung gusto naming maka-placing na maganda."
RK Ilagan unloaded 17 points, five assists, and three rebounds, while Jeepy Faundo tallied a double-double of 11 markers and 11 boards for Che’Lu-San Sebastian.
The Revellers now have a 6-3 win-loss record.
Alfred Batino chimed in 10 points and six rebounds, while De Leon almost nabbed a double-double of his own with nine markers and nine boards.
Che'Lu-San Sebastian was playing without Michael Calisaan, who fractured his left elbow in their previous game against Zark's Burger-Lyceum of the Philippines University. However, Tiu is confident that his other players will step up.
"Ang Che’Lu, di lang naman si Michael 'yan eh. Anybody can step up. Team effort yan," he said.
Jackson dropped 11 of his 19 points in the fourth quarter, as well as grabbing five rebounds and dishing out three assists, while Dionisio got 14 markers and 12 boards in the loss.
Gamboa-St. Clare fell to an even 3-3 card.
