MANILA, Philippines – Former bantamweight contender Z “The Dream” Gorres continued his rapid recovery after undergoing a series of surgeries for throat blockage 2 weeks ago.
The former boxer, who collapsed after winning against Colombian Luis Melendez in Las Vegas in November 2009, is quickly regaining his ability to walk after 4 days of therapy at the Perpetual Succour Hospital in Cebu.
He is also recovering partial control of his left hand.
Gorres, named “The Dream” for his technical boxing skills, is undergoing a 30-day aggressive therapy.
The therapy involves the strengthening and conditioning of his muscles to help him regain the ability to do functional activities.
Before having throat surgeries in the throat, Gorres also underwent a couple of medical operations for the brain injury he sustained from his last fight.
Lapid visits Gorres
The former boxer received an unexpected visit during his therapy.
Re-electionist Senator Lito Lapid visited Gorres to boost the latter’s confidence.
The senator also reportedly extended financial assistance to the fallen boxing idol.
Gorres earlier received assistance from President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo when they met at the Mactan International Airport on Thursday.
The President was joined by Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia and Press Secretary Crispulo Icban Jr. in welcoming Gorres, his wife Dachess and his 3 children in one of the airport lounges.
Dachess thanked Mrs. Arroyo and Lapid for extending help to her husband. With a report from Rachelle Dangin, ABS-CBN Central Visayas
