James Forrester and Davao Occidental are marching on to the MPBL Lakan Cup final 4. Handout

South Kings Davao Occidental Cocolife hacked out a 62-58 victory over fifth-seeded Zamboanga Family's Brand Sardines to advance to the 2020 Chooks-to-Go MPBL Lakan South Division Finals at STRIKE Gymnasium in Bacoor on Thursday.

Kenneth Mocon took charge in the fourth quarter, firing eight points in a 17-4 blast to put Davao ahead by 14 points, 59-45, with 5:49 left in the game.

Not going down without a fight, the Zamboanga quartet of Alvin Pasaol, Santi Santillan, Anton Asistio, and Robin Roño connived in a 13-2 run to slice the lead to 61-58 with 58 ticks left.

Injured Mark Yee then air-balled a three for Davao, handing Zamboanga one last chance to extend the game.

Asistio, though, muffed a game-tying 3-pointer on the other end before Bonbon Custodio iced the game with a split from the line.

Mocon, the lone double-digit scorer for Davao, tallied 14 points to go with four 3-pointers while also hounding Asistio throughout the fourth.

In the other game, Bacoor Strikers overwhelmed Basilan Jumbo Plastic in Game 2 to force a rubber match in their best-of-3 showdown.

The Strikers used a balanced attack to hammer out a 80-69 decision against the Steel.

Ian Melencio scored 17 points and brought down 3 rebounds to lead Bacoor, which came into Game 2 with a 0-1 series deficit.
