MANILA, Philippines – De La Salle University's Kianna Dy earned UAAP Player of the Week honors after keying the defending champions' triumph over archrival Ateneo de Manila University last Saturday.
Dy exploded for a season-high 21 points on 11 attacks, seven blocks, and three aces to guide the Lady Spikers to a 25-20, 25-17, 24-26, 25-20 triumph over the Lady Eagles.
It was a bounce-back performance from Dy, who promised head coach Ramil de Jesus that she would make up for a lackluster effort in their loss to Adamson University in their previous game.
"After naming matalo sa Adamson, nag-message sa akin 'yung bata na 'yan. Sabi niya, sorry, nag-sorry and then babawi ako. Eto naman, pinakita naman niya," said de Jesus.
Dy knew that the Lady Spikers needed to bounce back from that defeat in order to enter the second round of the tournament on a high note. "We need to get that confidence again," she said.
Dy was chosen over University of the East’s Shaya Adorador and Kath Arado, Far Eastern University captain Bernadeth Pons, National University stalwart Jaja Santiago and University of the Philippines’ topscorer Tots Carlos.
She is the second Lady Spiker to earn the honor, after team captain Majoy Baron.
