MANILA, Philippines -- Marinerong Pilipino barely broke a sweat in a 36-point demolition of Karate Kid-CEU, 93-57, in the 2020 PBA D-League Aspirants' Cup on Monday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

Juan Gomez de Liano scored 16 of his 21 points in the first half to set the tone for the Skippers, while adding 7 rebounds and 4 assists.

His early explosion ignited Marinero's 20-5 start. They led by as many as 38 points, 71-33, in the third quarter.

"Masaya ako especially kay Juan dahil nag-take charge siya," said coach Yong Garcia of Gomez de Liano's performance.

Javi Gomez de Liano also made his mark, putting up 18 points, 5 rebounds and 2 blocks as the Skippers won comfortably despite the absence of former De La Salle University star Jamie Malonzo.

Jordan Rios contributed 15 points and 5 rebounds, while Dhon Reverente came alive in the second half as he scored all 13 of his points in the last two frames, on top of 8 rebounds and 4 steals.

"Masaya ako dahil sa pinakita nila ngayon. Ang dami pa naming kulang, pero talagang binigyan ko yung players ng go signal na i-enjoy yung game," said Garcia.

It was a rude welcome for new CEU coach Jeff Napa, whose team made just one of 18 field goals in the first quarter.

Jerie Pingoy topscored for the Scorpions with 13 points, as John Apacible had 10 points and nine rebounds in the defeat.

The scores:

MARINERONG PILIPINO 93 -- Ju. Gomez de Liano 21, Ja. Gomez de Liano 18, Rios 15, Reverente 13, Manday 8, Senining 6, Batino 4, Fuentes 2, Santos 2, Mangahas 2, Serrano 2, Solis 0.
