MANILA, Philippines – San Miguel Beer kept its PBA Commissioner's Cup title hopes alive on Tuesday by beating Barako Bull, 102-91.
Having lost 8 games in 9 starts, the Beermen rode on a strong second quarter to quash the Energy Cola with hopes of making it into the quarterfinal round of the mid-season tournament.
Arizona Reid paced San Miguel with 34 points and 16 boards, while Arwind Santos added a double-double of 22 markers and 13 rebounds.
Alex Cabagnot and Doug Kramer came up with double-digit outputs of their own with 17 and 14 points, respectively.
The Beermen defeated the Barako even despite losing June Mar Fajardo in the first quarter.
The 6’11” center hurt his foot and was forced to sit out the rest of the game.
San Miguel was up by 15 in the second canto, with Reid and Santos doing heavy damage. Barako Bull, behind JC Intal, retaliated in the next frame to cut the deficit to 70-71.
The Beermen, however, checked the Energy Cola’s scorers early in the fourth while jacking the lead back to 14 points. They thwarted each of Barako Bull’s come back to claim a 2nd win in 10 games.
Solomon Alabi had 25 points and 24 rebounds, while Intal finished with 25 markers for the Energy Cola.
