MANILA, Philippines -- University of Santo Tomas (UST) head coach Kungfu Reyes is hopeful that ace spiker Milena Alessandrini's knee injury is not severe, even as the team waits for the result of the Fil-Italian's MRI results.

Alessandrini had to be stretchered out of the Araneta Coliseum court on Saturday after a bad fall in the second set of their game against Far Eastern University. The initial diagnosis was an MCL injury for the sophomore spiker, who had five points before the unfortunate incident.

The Lady Tamaraws wound up claiming a 19-25, 25-20, 25-19, 27-25 triumph, as the Golden Tigresses ran out of firepower following Alessandrini's exit.

According to Reyes, Alessandrini is already undergoing an MRI at the UST hospital, where the player was taken shortly after her injury.

"Siya na ang nakasalang ngayon. Wala pang result. Hopefully minor lang siya. Pakiramdam ko naman, medyo minor lang kasi mababa lang ang pain tolerance ni Milena for that matter," said Reyes of his player's inury. "So hopefully, yun ang tinitingnan ko doon."

"Yun ang sa akin, sa observation ko from outside, yung ang interpretasyon ko na hopefully ganoon nga. Sana tama ako, na kaunti lang, na kung may pilay man siguro may strain lang," he added.

However, Reyes knows that they will have to wait for the result of the MRI to know the extent of Alessandrini's injury.

If she is out for an extended period, it will be a massive blow to the campaign of the Tigresses who have come to rely on Alessandrini as one of their top scoring options. The Season 80 Rookie of the Year had been averaging over 15 points per game in UST's first three games of the year.

"Move forward na kami," said Reyes. "Worst lang, talagang mag-iiba ang rotation namin kung mawawala yung Milena, so kailangan mag-step up ng ibang bata at saka ng ibang mga senior."

Without Alessandrini, it was rookie Eya Laure (20 points) and veteran Sisi Rondina (16) who took charge in UST's offense. No other player reached double-digits, however.
