MANILA, Philippines -- Embattled Phoenix forward Calvin Abueva is well aware of what he has to do in order to be reinstated in the PBA, according to league commissioner Willie Marcial.

This, after the player's wife, Sam, made an impassioned Instagram post asking why Abueva has yet to play after being banned indefinitely in June 2019.

Speaking to reports during the PBA's Media Day on Thursday, Marcial said Abueva is in the process of fulfilling the "second stage" of his requirements for the lifting of his ban. The commissioner was satisfied with the "first stage," but will wait until Abueva has fulfilled the rest of his duties.

"Okay ako sa first stage ni Calvin," Marcial said.

Abueva already knows what these requirements are, and Marcial expects "The Beast" to work on these by next week.

May second stage na kaming gagawin for next week. Alam naman niya 'yun, ever since, na may pinapagawa kami sa kanya," he said.

Once Abueva has completed this second stage, then Marcial will give his recommendation to the PBA Board regarding the player's status.

Marcial, however, would not elaborate on what the "second stage" is, in an effort to protect Abueva.

"Kung ikaw mismo ang gustong magsabi, sige, so be it.

As to Sam's questions, Marcial said she should talk to her husband.

"Ginagalang ko naman ang opinyon niya. Siguro, kausapin niya si Calvin. Kasi si Calvin ang nakakaalam lahat," he said. "Alam ni Calvin from the start kung ano gagawin namin."

A series of on-court incidents led Marcial to give Abueva an indefinite ban in June 2019. A month later, Sam publicly accused Abueva of infidelity and abuse, but the couple later reconciled.
