Honorio Banario hopes to do well in his return to the featherweight class when he meets tough Thai fighter Shannon “OneShin” Wiratchai on Friday in ONE: King of the Jungle at Singapore Indoor Stadium.
The former ONE featherweight champion struggled as a lightweight, losing 4 of his last 5 bouts in that weight class.
Banario not only struggled with the extra weight, but he had to contend with bigger fighters, too.
“After two years, I dealt with injuries and I felt heavier even if I was in peak condition, so I decided to move back down to a more natural weight,” he said in an article posted on ABS-CBN Sports.
“Here, I am faster, more explosive, and the fans will surely enjoy an exciting match between two hungry veterans looking to make a statement to start the year.”
The fight is crucial for Banario, who is looking to break a 3-fight skid.
“For me, this is everything,” he said.
“All these times, I’ve put in all the work necessary to make sure I make a victorious return to the featherweight division. I’ve doubled my effort in everything during training sessions, and I hope to showcase these improvements (against Wiratchai).”
