MANILA, Philippines -- Barangay Ginebra team governor Alfrancis Chua on Tuesday made some clarifications regarding Greg Slaughter's shock exit from the Gin Kings.

Slaughter surprised the team's legion of fans -- and even team officials -- when he announced his intention to take a break from basketball. The move came shortly after Barangay Ginebra won the 2019 PBA Governors' Cup, which was Slaughter's fourth title with the squad.

Two weeks ago, Slaughter further explained his decision after seeing "inaccurate theories" circulating. The big man said that he never received any contract offer from Ginebra, and was never made aware of a trade proposal that involved him.

Speaking at the PBA press conference at Conrad Manila, Chua revealed that he has not been in contact with Slaughter, with only coach Tim Cone talking to the player about his decision.

"Ang dami nagsasabi, we didn't offer a contract," Chua said. "Sa basketball, sa PBA, sa corporate world, pag nag-expire ang contract mo, ikaw ang lalapit sa team and you're gonna ask, 'Pwede ako mag-renew?'"

It is not the team's responsibility to offer the contract extension, said Chua, adding that Slaughter's teammates are well aware of how things work in the league.

"Nag-champion kami sabay-sabay," he said. "After a week or a week and a half, 'yung mga players nagpuntahan sa opisina para mag-renew."

As for a trade, Chua denied that it was ever in the works.

"Sinong nagsabi ng rumor na 'yun? Hindi, gusto kong malaman. Kung hindi galing sa amin, huwag kayong maniwala, 'di ba," he said. "May nangyayari na, may rumor daw, sabi ite-trade daw. May rumor daw, walang kontrata. Paano magkakakontrata eh naglalaro pa."

"Paano may trade rumor na ganito? Eh 'di kung may trade rumor na ganoon, punta kayong PBA kung may sinubmit kaming na trade form, 'di ba? 'Yun lang 'yun, ganoon kasimple," he added.

As far as Chua is concerned, Slaughter's decision is one he came to make on his own and they have no recourse but to respect it.

"He's old enough," he said of Slaughter. "No one (should) question him, bakit niya ginawa, or bakit ganito. Kasi matanda na. Nasa tamang edad na siya para maka-decision kung ano talaga 'yung pakay niya o what he wants. So, respetuhin na lang natin."
