MANILA, Philippines – Import Erica Wilson and local star Mylene Paat delivered as Cignal swept PLDT Home Fibr, 25-22, 27-25, 25-19, to earn its first win in the 2019 Philippine Superliga Grand Prix on Thursday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Wilson tallied 21 points off 15 kills, five service aces, and a block for the HD Spikers. Meanwhile, Paat had 12 kills, five blocks, and a pair of aces for 19 points. Rachel Anne Daquis and Anastasia Artemeva combined for nine points.
"We adjusted Ana's position. At first, she was hesitant, but she was very professional and did her best, and followed my instructions," said Cignal coach Edgar Barroga, who moved the guest player to the middle spot and allowed Paat to flourish at her natural position at opposite.
"For Erica, I don't have any problem, because she will always do what she has to for the team," he added.
The HD Spikers erased a 7-11 deficit in the third set, unloading six straight points for a 13-11 lead. PLDT stayed within striking distance, however, and trailed by just 3 points, 22-19.
But Paat came to the rescue, nailing a strong hit before firing back-to-back aces to seal their first win in the Grand Prix.
Grace Lazard again carried the scoring load for PLDT, finishing with 15 points. Their other import, Kendra Dahlke, had 8 markers while Shola Alvarez scored 7.
PLDT fell to 0-2.
