MANILA, Philippines – University of the Philippines (UP) on Wednesday denied reports that De La Salle-College of St. Benilde (CSB) forward Justin Gutang was set to play for the Fighting Maroons.
A philstar.com report on Wednesday claimed that Gutang intended to transfer to UP and play for the Fighting Maroons in Season 84 in a "one-and-done" scenario.
UP team manager Atty. Agaton Uvero quashed those rumors.
"It has come to our attention that there has been news about De La Salle-College of St. Benilde's Justin Gutang transferring to University of the Philippines to play for the Fighting Maroons," Uvero said in a statement.
"We would like to inform everyone and our supporters that UP Men's Basketball Team Management, including Coach Bo Perasol, have had no direct communications at all with said athlete as to his plans to transfer to UP," he said.
Gutang averaged 11.4 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game for the Blazers in Season 95, where they finished with a 9-9 win-loss record and failed to make the Final 4.
Philstar.com quoted CSB coach TY Tang as saying: "All I can give (Gutang) is guidance and wisdom. His home will be where his heart is."
